Community Spirit Award

Friday, January 25, 2008

The newly renamed Community Spirit Award was presented at a gala dinner on Friday, January 25, 2008 at King's Caterers. Deserving award winners were Robin Kemmerer and Alfonso "Al" Durante. A crowd of over 200 people honored these fine recipients with presentations from all our local political entities and a hilarious skit written and performed by the Physical Education Department of Carl Sandburg Middle School, where Mr. Durante works. Master of Ceremonies, Daniel Baranoski, provided the crowd with an impressive list of the accomplishments of these two honorees.

Commendations were presented to both Robin and Al by Congressman Patrick Murphy, State Senator Tommy Tomlinson, State Representative Chris King, County Commissioner Jim Cawley and Township Supervisor Robert McMonagle.

Foundation Chair Tom Hecker presented beautiful glass engraved statutes commemorating their community service.

This event underwent a transformation this year from a breakfast to dinner event. The change allowed many more individuals to attend and show their appreciation for the wonderful contributions Robin and Al have made to our community.
